Saint Joseph's Catholic Church

 September 9, 2009

Members present: Susan Thomas, Richard Koenig, Cindy Roberts, Kathyrne Harper, Adrienne Thies and Bob Mahurin.

Also present: Fr Bob, Sister Nadine Flott, Pam Flaspohler, Carol Mahurin, and Marjorie Koenig.

Fr. Bob opened the meeting with a prayer.

Minutes from July 15, 2009 meeting were reviewed. Richard Koenig motioned to approve
minutes with changes. Kathyrne Harper seconded. All approved.

FINANCIAL REPORT:
Financial statement for 7/1/09 through 9/9/09 was prepared by Pam Flaspohler. Total income
was $11,593.79 with total expenses of $15,376.52, a deficit of $3,782.74. Deficit was due for the most part to annual property tax and repairs/improvements. The checking account had a balance of $1,928.82, the money arket account had a balance of $33,056.72, and Stain Glass Window Account had a balance of $13,485.75. There is also $20,000.00 in a loan account with the Diocese earning interest.

The first annual budget was presented with an anticipated budget of $67,000.00 in income and $70,000.00 in expenses. Budget was approved.

COMMISSION REPORTS:

SOCIAL CONCERNS:
Adrienne Thies and Karen Lueke are working on pro-life activities, including a poster
presentation of each month of pregnancy.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:

CCD classes will begin on the following Sunday, September 13th with approximately 30 students. There will a very large First Communion class.

FINANCE AND GROUNDS:
The back parking lot project has been completed. The fence posts have been covered with
plastic covering and reflectors. A chain has been run from post to post.

MINISTERIAL ALLIANCE REPORT:
Richard Koenig reported that St. Joseph's will host the October FMA meeting on October 1st.
First Baptist Church held a Back to School Party on the square. They ask that local churches
help with the expense and work. St. Joseph's is one of the few churches that does not
participate. Richard motioned to participate next year. Adrienne Thies seconded. All
approved.

Fayette Baccalaureate will be held at St. Joseph's Hall on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Richard
and Marjorie Koenig will coordinate the meal which will be prepared by local pastors and
volunteers.

August was St. Joseph's month for helping with the Food Pantry. There was considerable food
donated and $272 plus collected and sent to the Food Pantry by our church.

Holiday House may come under the umbrella of the FMA to utilize their tax exempt status. The
ministers are asked to help Holiday House with distribution of gifts at Christmas to emphasize
the churches' involvement.

Unity Baptist has a new pastor, Clay Dewoody, and First Baptist hopes to get a temporary
pastor soon.

CMU REPORT
:
Richard Koenig reported that the Fair on the Square was held on Monday, August 24th. A total
of 80 students registered with more than half showing a interest in the Catholic Youth Club.

Whalen George, Director of Campus Ministries, has invited each church in town to take a month
and have a Sunday service on campus for two Sundays per month.

Karen Lueke will attend the adult training for Theology of the Body on October 3rd. She is
already trained for the teen session.

WINDOW PROJECT

OLD BUSINESS:

Fr. Bob reported that Bishop Gaydos will be here on Wednesday, September 23rd at 7pm to bless
the Altar furniture. Rosemary Heinen will invite Mike Johnmeyer. A small reception will be
held after Mass. The Booklet for this event is complete. The plaque for the Stained Glass
Window is here and will be installed prior to this date.

NEW BUSINESS:

Richard Koenig reported that the church hall is in need of work. Kathyrne Harper will ask
Bill Wies to put together a committee to report on the needed repairs to the hall at the next
meeting.

Some of the tables in the hall are getting torn up due to people stacking the heavy wooden
tables on top of the lighter plastic tables. Richard suggested that the wooden tables be
replaced with plastic tables.

Becky Kurtz will be the chairperson of the program, "Why Catholic?" The program will consist
of a 6 week session in the fall and a 6 week session during Lent. A video about the program
will be shown after Mass on Sunday. A group facilitator meeting will be held on Saturday at
Lady of Lourdes in Columbia. Beverly and Becky will be working on getting small group session
leaders. Sr. Nadine will hold daytime meetings.

A list of shut-ins was provided to facilitate home visits. Clarence and Shirley Felten were
removed from the list and Victoria and Harry Fillinuk was added. Anyone that knows of
home-bound parishioners is asked to submit them.

The next parish council meeting is scheduled for November 11, 2009.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Richard Koenig and seconded by Adrienne Thies.
